I just wanted an opinion on the Rocket UFW-10 vs. SVS PB12-ISD/V. If i have the room is the SVS worth the extra $100? I am trying to find a sub in the $600-$700 dollar range that really hits hard. If anybody has any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it.

How big is your room?

With the comment "really hits hard" I assume you'll be mostly interested in HT performance instead of music.

The Rocket is ultra fast (ufw=ultra fast woofer) with magnificent articulation for music and some good thump for ht BUT not like the large ported SVS's and HSU's. If you want thump for HT with very good music performance go ported (SVS or HSU vtf3), likewise if music is your priority with good thump for ht the Rocket is tough to beat.

If you want the best bang for your buck I would suggest saving a bit more $ and go for the plus series from SVS or the vtf3HO from HSU.

I myself went with 2 Onix x-subs from av123.com as they handle music and HT with authority. Amazing that 2 little 8"ers can pressurize & shake a 2000cu ft room.

My room is roughly 11'x17'. And yes you are correct, I will mainly be using the Sub for HT. The plus series is a bit out of my price range, I am currently running an axiom set up with the M22, and still using and old pioneer woofer(wal-mart special) as my main sub. I really like the look of the SVS subs, but never having expierenced one am afraid that one in the plus series may drown out my M22 setup. I really dont know for sure though. At anyrate i was really looking at subs between the $500-$700 range. Just tryin to get the best for what i can afford.

You needn't worry about "drowning out" your M22s. When you properly set up and calibrate any sub, be it an SVS or a Rocket, it will balance with the rest of your speakers just fine.

Rocket Subs

Check out the B-Stock UFW-12 Rocket sub for $749. This would be more comparable to the 12" SVS subs and the sealed design is great for Music and HT. If you want extension below 20 Hz then get an SVS. If you listen to a lot of music and esthetics are a factor, then consider a Rocket sub.

Have you read the review on the UFW-12? It doesn't really have much oomph below 25Hz...

Have you heard a UFW-12?

Seems to support my previous statement.

For $750, you can get a better HT sub.

Sheep, Someday, when you are ALL growed up, you hopefully will learn that making judgements about a subwoofer based on a graph is not the best idea. ;)

Now ... and try to follow along here, I happen to have the PB12-Ultra and the UFW-12 here. We also own about 500 DVD's. For 490 of them, and 99 % of our music selections, the UFW-12 is the superior sounding subwoofer.

For 10 DVD's, and about 4 CD's, the Ultra is the superior performer due to its tactile abilitities with infrasonics.

Jrice,
My wife and I actually had the opportunity to compare the Axiom EP500 and the UFW-12. We actually had difficulty distinguishing the difference between the UFW-12 and Axiom EP500 for most HT applications. There are several scenes where we thought we could hear a difference. Granted these are subjective (and we didn't compare it with the SVS Ultra), but the differences between the UFW-12 and the more expensive ported counterpart was not as big as I expected it to be.

With that said, I have never heard the SVS ISD/V or UFW-10 so I can't make any comments on those subwoofers. My personal feeling is that you should get both, and return the one you don't want, and determine for yourself what is important to you. :)

PS Have you considered the HSU-VTF3 MKII? It's right in your price range.

For you room, especially for HT, and to assure you don't think back later : "I should have gotten a little bit more" ... the following:

1. Hsu STF-3 @ $599
2. SVS 25-31 PC+ with the new 12.3 driver @ $775
3. Hsu VTF-3 Mark II @ $699
4. Rocket UFW-12 @ $849
5. ACI Force @ $750 (amazingly good sealed sub)

All of these offer a major improvement over your original choices for not much more $$$$ ...

Interesting, you started another thread yesterday where you said you wanted a sub between $1000-$1500 for a 20x30' room. Are you setting up two different systems for two different rooms?

Btw, I echo Craigs suggestions for this room.

I figured you had never actually HEARD a UFW-12? :p ;)

If your definition of "better" is "lower and louder," then your last statement might have merit. However, as Craigsub made clear, if your definition of "better" involves quality of bass reproduction over a wide range of frequencies, IMO your statement is, at the very least, off the mark.

It's been some time now... did you ever settle on a sub?
