Just got off the phone with AV123 having placed an order for a UFW-10 in Birdseye Maple at the sale price of ($399).

http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=subwoofers&product=1.1

Based on reading a ton of posts, threads and reviews the UFW-10 seems to be a great value at $399 and should fit my requirements to a "T". Should have it in about a week. I have not purchased any new speakers or subs in many years so I am pretty excited about this purchase. It will replace the thumpy old Paradigm PDR8 in my 2.1 setup in the den. I have never be able to get the PDR8 to sound right or blend with various speakers/rooms/locations.

Any ideas on what to do with the old PDR8? My only thought is to use it in the living room to augment my 6 year old Hsu VTF2 for movies only (the VTF2 is pretty OK by itself). It's too big to use as a door stop I think.

I will post a review after it gets here.

Regards, Nick

Paradigms subs do not match the quality of their other stuff until you step up to the Sevro. Sell it and with the money buy a BFD for your Hsu.

I had thought about selling it, though I have no idea what it's worth.

Nick250.........if you can get $125+shipping out of the PDR-8, take it and run!

tex-amp, I have to respectfully disagree with you about the paradigm subs not being as worthy as their other speakers until you get up to the Servo. If you keep them in perspective with their coorespondingly priced loud-speaker mates, they are about good as any other companies similarly priced subs (with a few noteworth exceptions). From the PW-Seismic-Servo, paradigm makes some very very good subwoofers. I would have no issues matching a PW-2100 with a pair of Studio 40's and expecting noting less than a stellar performing sub/sat combo and a PDR-8/10 would compliment a set of Titans very well in a smaller room. But you are correct that the Servo is the king of paradigm subs and one of the premier units on the market.

The PDR line sucks! There's a least a hand full of better subs at the same price.

I like it alot. I bought it to use in a 2.1 system matched with my Paridigm Mini Monitors in a 11.5 x 12 den (total 1400 CF, vaulted cielings) den. It sounds great most of the time, but there are occasional boomy frequencies even after much placement testing. And I really dislike boomy. So before I can give my final judgement I need to:

1. Put bass traps into place.

2. Eq the sub after the bass traps are in place.

The UFW-10 sounds good enough to make me want to buy better speakers however. Ahem, we know how that slipery slope goes. I did briefly try it in the main system (~3000 CF) and on LFEs it go swollowed up by the room size. Two of them for music would well in that space I would think.

I will make a post after I get the bass traps and room EQed.

Regards, Nick

Just read that Paradigm has an all new "Signature Servo" in this months HomeTheater mag. No telling what that darn thing would cost. Peronally, I would spend my money on a VTF3-MKII or on a SVS Ultra or better yet an Axiom Epic 500/600 before I would buy a Reference or Signature Servo. But hey, dat is me you may think differently.:) :)

During a trip to Canada earlier this year, we visited three high end audio shops. Each has the Paradigm subs, including the Servo units. None of them impressed me the way SVS did at the headquarters. Had I not been to SVS, I may have been slightly impresses. You just have to hear both to appreciate what companies like SVS and HSU do for bass. And yes, one shop had a VTF 3 for comparison - and there was no comparison. The HSU won hands down - especially for music.
