I recently picked up a pair of Rock Solid bookshelf-size speakers at an estate sale. They were cute looking and I thought they would be great for a bedroom or den system. Just for the heck of it, I hooked them up in my main system, and when I fired them up, my jaw must have dropped to the ground. The pure, clean sound that came out these little things is staggering, and they sound about five times bigger then they are, plus they can play loud with no distortion. The only thing they don't have is low bass, obviously...The manual says they were made by a division of B&W...I hate to say this, but I enjoy listening to these more then my large, floorstanding speakers, which are Mirage speakers....I hear more detail, for one thing, and the imaging is pinpoint, unlike the Mirage's,which have a more difused sound due to their omni-polar sound...I'm thinking if I hook these up to a decent subwoofer, I might have one giant-killer system. I mean, how is it possible for such sound to come out of what appears to be a 4 inch woofer, and 1 inch tweeter? The manual doesn't indicate what materials they're made of.
So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these amazing little speakers....I've never heard B&W speakers, but if these little guys can sound this good, what must the big B&W's sound like? Or did B&W perform some sort of magic act with the Rock Solids?...Hmmm......
