Was always a fan, starting with his first role (and one of my all time favorites) “Altered States”.

RIP...Out of many, Kiss of the Spider Woman is a personal fav, maybe because he starred with Raul Julia, another great star.

Yep first exposed to him in Altered States. Liked all his work generally. RIP.

Just saw that this morning. Very sad. I liked him in many of his roles. They announced it as "A famous Marvel actor has passed..." Marvel not exactly at the top of his very storied list of films. RIP William.

Altered States was great. Unbearable Lightness of Being. Too many to name, just some great stuff. I think Broadcast News was a bit before my time, but Altered States was one of the first films that had a big impact on me, that I really liked.

Yeah that's about the last thing I'd think about is his presence as the general in the MCU.....but probably a good paycheck for him. The day before he passed I had watched Smoke, a better presentation of his skills I think.

I was sorry to hear about Hurt's death. I also liked his movies. He was nearly 72, about 2 years younger than I am. Eeek!

No cause of death was in the announcement, but one news article mentioned that in 2018 he was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. Double eeek! That could have been prevented if he had been checked properly before it became metastatic.

Prostate cancer is a real killer but not in all cases. If it's diagnosed early, as you say it can be treated.

My father had such disease which started soon after he retired at 65. He avoided doctors so when he saw one, the only treatment for him then in the late 1960's was Tace, an estrogen. He survived on it and died at 75 from pneumonia at hospital following admission for a stroke.
