Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts dead at 80 | CBC News

For those of us of a certain age, The Rolling Stones were a big part of our lives.

I still listen to the Stones. What a huge bummer.

I love this: 'One anecdote relates that in the mid-1980s, an intoxicated Jagger phoned Watts's hotel room in the middle of the night, asking, "Where's my drummer?" Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying: "Don't ever call me your drummer again. You're my f*cking singer!" '

Watts was pure class.

Wow. Those guys seemed to live forever and amazingly, they still sounded good too. RIP Charlie.

Last concert I saw of the Stones was in the Chicago United Center 1999 or 2000 The GooGoo Dolls, which were super hot at the time opened up for them. No one cared about them and the Stones were just an awesome concert, great show.

Side note: that kills my "They are vampires" theory.

LONDON (AP) — Charlie Watts, the self-effacing and unshakeable Rolling Stones drummer who helped anchor one of rock’s greatest rhythm sections and used his “day job” to support his enduring love of jazz, has died, according to his publicist. He was 80.

a jazz lover! So that's why I can't find the records I want, Watts bought 'em all!

Crazy to think they still tour at that age.

Granted, B.B did it too.

I guess some people never get tired of it.

When you've done tours for 60 years, what else you gonna do? Probably feel weird not to tour after that long.

I saw BB King late in his career (Majestic Theater San Antonio), where he just had a chair he sat in the whole time he played. Regardless of age, when you see BB King perform, you get the feeling he can make that guitar make any sound he wants it to make.
