I am in the process of setting up my HT system and have a question:

I have a speaker that sits behind a wall in a cut out section. I would like to cut a hole in the wall for the speaker and am looking for a rigid grill cover to cover the hole in the wall. Any suggestions where to look?

My first thought would be to build your own frame out of wood. Maybe that's because I'm kinda cheap. :)

The easiest way is to cut out a square piece of particle board that fits the hole in your wall, then cut out an oversized speaker opening as close as you can get to the edges. Now THAT's a frame you can guarantee will be aligned properly, and not twisted like a science project.

Now you can lightly stretch speaker fabric (or the same fabric from a material store) over the board, wrapping it around to the back where you staple/glue it.

Since the grille fabric is opaque, you don't need to worry about how the hole looks - just that the outside edges line up with the hole in your wall which should be square to keep your sanity.

How does that work for you?

I was hoping for something other than cloth, something my kids wouldn't destroy

Any other places?

I checked those places and couldn't find what I was looking for. Does anyone know where I can get some metal mesh screen about 10"x18"?? I would even take a sheet and cut to fit if necessary. Thanks, Jason

rigid speaker cover follow-up

I was wondering if you were able to find these metal speaker covers as I am doing the same thing and cannot find speaker grills to use with bookshelf speakers I am installing from the backside of a closet.

check out www.mnpctech.com I know its not meant for audio, but he sells metal mesh in various different patterns and sizes in his "mod supply store" you may have to special order it for your size, but he doesnt really over charge for larger sizes.

I've have the exact same issue. I want to mount a subwoofer behind a wall and am looking for a speaker frame/grill cover.

I was wondering what the the final solution was for those that posted.
