Hello everyone,

I was wondering, what connections are the best for RG-6 coax cable for our TV sets? I have new cable running to the vcr and the plug type from the vcr to the tv and at times, when moving to dust behind the entertainment center, i get a weak signal for the lower channels. I would like the best connection that i can get.

Thank you,
Sellncars

I work for a cable company and we normally give out jumpers for the vcr-tv connection. The push-on style are awful and cause a lot of service calls. Try your cable company, they can make one for you in whatever length you need.

You actually want to know which is the best F-type connector to put on the end of a piece of RG-6 coax cable. This is different than what the best end is. Terminations are typically things like having a 'F-type' connector, or a RCA connector, or a BNC connector, or S-Video connector. Those are the types of ends you can put onto RG-6 coaxial cable.

As for the actual 'best' F-type connector, there are likely some very expensive models available, but I have had good luck with the Ideal Snap-And-Seal type ends.

These ends (make sure to get RG-6 or RG-6 Quad Shield as appropriate)

Those connectors are what most cable companies seem to use. Personally I have found the twist-on type to be the easiest to install and I have never had any problems with connectivity or connectors falling off.

Maybe your VCR has bad solder connections internally to cause your problems?

I forgot to add that I had connection problems with an RG-6 cable I am using as a subwoofer cable with F-Type to RCA adapters. I discovered that jiggling the F-Type connector would cause the sound to cut out. I cut off the factory installed terminations and installed some twist-on connectors. The connection problems are gone and I had to turn the sub volume down because it became substantially louder.

I tore open the connector (encased in plastic) and found that the braid hadn't even been pulled back with the factory connections. The connectors were simply pushe on and crimped at two points (not all the way around) witht the braid barely contacting the connector. The cable itself is good quality, otherwise I would have thrown it out and started over.

Not all RG-6 cables are created equal.

Criminal. Yep, workmanship is wanting in some cable assembly line.

Hello,

Actually the picture is better when the VCR is on. I know it's the connections. The connectors that come on the cable itself from any store are lame. I have the tools to put on the original connectors, but want something better.

Thanks,
