i live 1/4 mile southwest of a 50,000 watt radio station. when i connect all my speakers to a yamaha rx-v661 everything sounds good.

but when i connect a scientific atlanta 4240 hdc cable box to the receiver via hdmi and connect the receiver to a samsung ln-t4061 television via hdmi
i get the radio station signal - even with the sound muted. i talked to the station engineer and he recommended .01 mf caps on all speaker wires at both receiver and speaker connections. tried that but i still get the rfi.

pull the hdmi from the cable box to the receiver and rfi goes away, but so does my tv signal. any suggestions? do i need a shielded hdmi cable?

Had a similar problem when I lived close to a over-the-air TV station. You can try putting a line filter on your coax for the cable box. RadioShack used to carry them and I saw some at Amazon. Just a little tube that acts as a low/high pass filter outside of the television bandwidth.

Seriously, I have no life.
Make sure the coax from the cable company is grounded at the point where it enters the building, or as close to that as possible. The NEC requires any communications cabling from a provider be grounded to the meter box, the breaker panel or a ground rod, as long as it meets the criteria listed. If the cable isn't grounded, call the cable company and have them take care of it. They violated the electric code and they should be the ones to fix it. Un-grounded means the shield can't be effective.
