RF 82 Speaker Setting Question!

I have my RF 82's hooked up to my Pioneer Receiver. Should I set the Front Speakers to "Small"?? The bass when it's on large is almost annoying. I have a VDR-12 subwoofer to compliment it. As long as I have a subwoofer should I just leave the front's on small? (Along with the Center)

Is there anyway I can change the level of bass coming out of the front speakers?? If I can have the front's on Large but only producing very little bass that would be ideal.

I also have my x-over point on my speakers at 80hz.

**(the room is no bigger than 20x13ft and i'm about 9ft from my speakers....)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If you have your speakers set to large, they are running full range and attempting to output all frequencies coming from your source. Nothing that says you can't do this, but the situation you describe is often the result. Try setting all your speakers to small and adjusting the crossover. 80 Hz is a good place to start, but you may find a lower setting sounds better. Since you mentioned you want them to output very little bass, something closer to 50-60 Hz might do the trick. Try it out and see if that works for you. Speaker placement could be an issue as well. How close are your towers to the back and side walls? Pulling them out a bit might help as well.

They were fairly close to the wall so i pulled them out maybe half a foot and that did help a little bit actually! The X.Over point was the real deal though... I set the Front's back to Large and dropped the x-over to 50hz, and rock, rap, techno, all sounds great. Thanks Oppman.

I've got my RF-82's crossover at 80 too and its perfect. Incidentally 80 hertz is the THX recommended crossover for systems with a sub
