I Just Picked Up A Yamaha Rxv 863. I Like It But My Old Htr-5250 Actually Delivered More Power To The 2 Front Main Speakers. Did I Set Up The System Wrong, Am I Missing Something Here. Anyone Have Same Receiver And Experienced Same Thing I Am.

I had that model for less than one day. I don't know if it was defective or not, but it had major issues with video switching. When I watched cable TV it always hic-uped (SP??) with the signal. Very annoying!! And, I wasn't crazy about the sound compared to my Pioneer receiver. I have since found a Marantz sr6001 that I am enjoying as I type. I'd would just keep trying...........

I had a 5250 and replaced with RXV 659 with digital volume control like the 863....the problem is part perception. The 5250 has the old analog volume control vs the digital on the 863. The 5250 control is biased up front delivering about 75% of its power at 12 oclock. The digital 863 is probably delivering half at -10. The advantage of the digital approach is that it is precise and the level can be stored. The disadvantage is that it takes more time to increase gain from low level to high...Some of the old analog Sonys had a rediculous bias where you were clipping above 10 oclock....I guess the idea was to give the illusion of power to help sell the crap....
