Lots of light output, much brighter than a theater even when it outputs the standard which many do not come close.
I've gotta say that my viewing of the Sony is contradictary to this. Not that the Sony isn't good, but at CEDIA when the Sony was shown on a 100" screen in a totally blacked out room, the first thing I thought was "Wow! That's a dim projector."
Earlier in the day I had seen the Optoma HD81 shown on a 166" screen and it was far brighter and punchier than the Sony.
Head-to-head?

Projector Central definitely agrees with my assessment that this projector is simply not as bright as many others out there at a similar price point. Despite a great job pushing the LCoS technology forward, Sony seems to be a bit behind the competitors for overall quality right now...
and while I love the Optoma most, the BenQ W10000 with lens shift is the one that I would most like to see in my theater, but I likely will end up with the Mits. 1080p model due to some pricing advantages for me.
