Ive found a much better price for a new one instead of Best Buy, which will be getting back my reciever. I may just get the same again WITH the mic this time (damn open box special) for about 100$ less. BUT im looking at upgrading... i may not, i may just amplify the front channels, but ive been drooling over some recievers... like the Yamaha HTR 5990 - 140 watts/channel with full HDMI and all that. I think I like the power and the price is right (got one lined up for 875 shipped). I will go a bit higher, so what do you guys think? Whats a good reciever in that range with similar features? Denon? HK? Running RTI8, RTI4, CSI5 and FXI3. Thnx!

hk's are nice, very moderately power rated.

the 7300 will power as good/better than any youve mentioned.

no hdmi though.

the 635, rated at 75-85 watts a channel, will, lots of times. have more power than most receivers rated at 100 wpc.

ratings arent always truthful.

If you are going to check the 3806, you might as well wait on the 2807. Less money, more features - what a bargain! Performance still better than most.

The Yamaha RX-V2600 can be had for $900ish and has HDMI Upconversion.

The 5990 is about equal in power to the 1015. I doubt you'll hear a difference.

Very true
The more realistic stats on the 5990 are 120 watts per channel and on the 1015 its 110watts.

Indeed, a 10 watt difference will be absolutely inaudible. If you need an upgrade from the 1015tx, you're going to need to step up more than the 5990 (at least in terms of amplifier sections).

The only AVR's I can think of in the $1000ish price range that is a substantial step up is the older Denon 4802 and the HK7300. Both will do a much better job driving demanding speakers. Everything else is going to be much higher because they'll be flagship AVR's. The older Pio Elite 56 is pretty powerful, but you can get the newer Elite 74 for a few hundred more.
