Response from Rotel

Well the dealer that was trying to sell me a Rotel 1057 for my 4ohm Auditors said there would be know problem driving them with it. He also said don't buy the Denon 2308ci because it won't last 9 months under the 4ohm load and won't have the sq as the Rotel. OK this is a response I get from Rotel >>>>The RSX-1057 is only capable of speakers with 8 ohm minimum speakers. It is not designed to dissipate the heat that would be generated from 4 or 6 ohm loads. This could result in damage to the receiver.<<<<< It is getting very frustrating finding an AVR to drive these speakers. I would prefer to keep them so please help on choosing an AVR for me. I watch HD TV,ocassional movie and listen to music.

You could purchase the Rotel and run a seperate 7 channel amp like the Emotiva, Outlaw, etc.

The Onkyo TX-SR805 is 4-ohm stable, from the review on this site:

It might be worth a look. The power amplifier section of this beast is quite impressive, dual output-device pairs per channel rather than a single pair. This bodes well for the performance of the internal amplifier.

One i think i read somewhere that the onkyo's have heat issues under normal situations.I have the rsx1056 driving 4ohm speakers and have not had any issues whatsoever.Rec is only warm and in reality it only gets moderate ventilation where it's at.I dont think you'll have any problems with the rotel and 4ohm speakers.I checked with rotel as well as others in regards to 4ohm speakers with my rsx1056 to see if i should add an amp and as of yet have not needed to.opinions vary.My Rotel is used for everything Movies/music/sat. tv and is on atleast 16hrs a day.Every once in a while i put my hand on the receiver to see how hot it's getting and it's only warm and this is at the time i'm about to turn it off for the day.Hope this helps

The Emotiva DMR-1 should be able to drive a 4-ohm load. Give them a ring and they'll tell you for sure.

Forgot about NAD. DMC-Electronics and Saturday Audio often have some really good deals on NAD.

I don't think that one will do 4 ohm speakers for all 7 channel. The NAD and Arcam models are rated for 4 ohms but neither will give you more (may be slightly more) power for 4 ohm loads. The thing is, a Denon 2308, or as someone mentioned, the RX-V1700 and above can do the trick too but you will have to be careful with the volume control. Even with the NAD or ARCAM models, I would definitely recommend you add a 2 channel amplifier at the very least, to take care of the front channels that need the power most of the time. It is not that you would otherwise damage the receiver, but you will have peace of mind, knowing that your speakers won't be starved for current during peak demands.

What speakers are you trying to drive? Sonus Faber- Cremona Auditors? And why no amp?

I'm surprised that Rotel takes that position. Have you tried NAD yet? They are 4 ohm stable.

Agreed they look very plain and drab for the most part. However I did consider the NAD t753 before I bought my Denon 3805. My only gripe with NAD and others like them is they build excellent sounding receivers but JMO AVR's should do more than just sound nice. That why I would love to own NAD separates and don't really care for their receivers.
