Resolution falloff problem

I have an Optoma HD72 in my HT using the HDMI for input source. My problem is this: When I have everything adjusted and focused the focus sharpness falls off toward the edges of the screen. Does anyone else experience this same issue? I assume this is due to the quality of the lens assembly. Is that a correct assumption or am I doing something wrong?

If you are not using any keystone correction at all then this is likely a lens issue and, since I haven't seen the projecotor in person, I can't really say if it is typical of this projector or not.

Since I haven't heard of this issue with any of the major reviews I've ready personally, it may be worth asking the question on a few other sites as well to see what sort of responses you may get from owners of this machine and then it may be worth taking back to Optoma as a service issue.

If you ARE using keystone correction, then you have other issues which are causing a softer focus. The first is tilting the projector at all puts the optics out of the normal plane they were designed to operate within. Then, you have a reduction in the pixels you are using and are not projecting as a proper rectangle, but as a trapezoid. Both of these items will affect image quality the more you get into the region that is being keystoned.

No, I'm not using any keystone correction. The projector is set up as square to the wall as I can get it. I just sent the projector to Optoma for a second time. The first time I sent the projector in was because a dust bunny was in the lens assembly and needed to be cleaned as well as a lamp shut down after boot-up. When I received the projector back the left side of the screen would not focus at all no matter how much I would rack the focus. It took Optoma two weeks to get the projector back to me and now the focus fade is mostly even one side compared to the other. Now I am not sure if this was an issue from the beginning or not.

How can one tell if the projector is absolutely square to the projector screen outside of checking that the lens is level in both axis and checking that the edges of the projected image are level as well?

The focus change is not extreme but the projected image is definitely not tack sharp from edge to edge. Too picky?

Do you have a front projector and if so is the image tack sharp edge to edge?
