Replacing Gain Controls

It is time to replace the gain controls on my Hafler 9130. How do I know? Left channel works fine...right channel plays well until I adjust the volume on that channel on the amp. Then it is scratchy and intermittent until I find the location it likes then it plays just fine. So the question is can I just replace the gain control or do I need parts from Hafler?

Thanks

Try cleaning the potentiometer first. You can buy cleaning spray in a can at any electronics outlet. That may (and usually does) resolve problems of this sort.

If you replace the pot, you want to get one that is exactly the same as the original equipment. If you can't find an exact match, then replace both of them with something comparable.

Hey thanks for the tip on the tuning solution that worked on the 1st amp.:) The second amp used to have the same problem. It wasn't a problem as it was the right channel and I ran it in mono. But now the right makes no sound what so ever.:( Any thoughts on what to try next? Also I looked at the pots they have stamped on them 100k (I think) can I replace with 50K providing you guys think that is the problem.

Go back and do it again. Don't be shy. Flood the control with the tuner cleaner and turn the control back and forth repeatedly. It should take care of it.

Well, flooded the controls with cleaner but to no avail...still no sound. Although, when the speaker wire is disconnected you can hear it in the speaker. So, do I change the volume controls? If so, which controls and from where should I get them or are there other suggestions?

Thanks,

Yes, that's all that's left. Try to find exact replacements. If you can't, then at least find some with the same value and taper.
