Replace Denon 2807 AVR

Finally upgraded my flat panel (SONY) and now experienced that my 3 year old Denon AVR doesn't manage HDMI 1.3. Would like to upgrade and spend less than $2K. Would also like to improve the audio coming from my Paradigm Studio 20s v.3 (also have Paradigm center and read speakers). I have a cheap Panasonic BD, which is v1.3 rated that I will replace in the future.

Seems that every AV store pushes their best mid level solution such as the Yamaha 3900, Integra 7.6, Denon 3808 and Onyko 806.

Is there a clear cut AVR solution out there?

If you like the Denon brand and sound then I suggest you stick to that brand in your upgrade. If you don't like the sound then an Onkyo SR705 is sufficient for driving your speakers to reasonable volume levels. I'm thinking they are 2-ways. If not you may want to go bigger. I think it's unreasonable to spend 2k on a receiver. At that point you should be doing pre-amp/amp combos. IMO of course it's fun to have the top of the line. One easy way to upgrade the system is to upgrade your subs to a DIY option. for 2k you could shake your house off it's foundation.:D. As always it's the speakers that really make a system not the receiver.

You dont need to have HDMI 1.3 in a receiver. You can still enjoy your 2807. Just send the signal from the blu-ray as uncompressed PCM to the Denon.

FYI the top of the Line Onkyo NR-905 is going for 900 at accessories4less. It has an amazing EQ system, 1080p upconverting, 50lbs of amp.

Thanks for the responces to my AVR replacement. Seems to me that spending upwards of 2K is overkill.

You're really going to be going sideways in the receiver search. All for the hdmi solution. Run the hdmi to your television from the blu ray. Use analog outs from your blu ray to your denon and you will get excellent blu ray performance. If your blu ray doesn't have the analog outs, get one that does. Or, just go with an optical digital sound cable and live without the bluray hidef codecs. I have and haven't looked back. Your needs may be different than mine. I don't watch a lot of movies. About 1 a week. The blu ray looks awse on the video side, and sounds just fine audio wise over analog cables, and even the optical will sound great. I bought a feature rich receiver and didn't like it. Too much....stuff loaded on it that I didn't want. (ipod, bluetooth, xm, sirius, am/fm)
Put your cash in speakers or a new blu ray. My 2 cents. Or if you're dying to , go seperates, buy a new prepro and a nice used amp.

Your 2807 will handle 1080p video just fine (mine doe) and multichannel pcm is a beautiful thing to hear (just put it all out over hdmi and you will be fine!). You are set unless you just have to see the high def audio codecs light up on a receiver's display....

If you decide to upgrade I may be interested in your 2807.

Once again, I appreciate all of the responses. I particularly took interest in trnqk7's response. Therefore, I reconnected my devices. Panasonic BD HDMI to 2807. Want to see and hear rented Netflix movies this weekend to evaluate. Comcast Cable box to component in; certainly don't need a HDMI connection for that device. Forgot to mention that I also have a Denon 2930 that I use to play music which is more of an interest to me than watching movies. I have that audio connected to my 2708 external in. Lastly, I went to the local AV store and listened to a Ray Charles CD on their Paradigm Studio 20s v5. They just received those speakers and were not quite broken in but suffice to say that there was a discernable difference between the 2809 (reference) and the 3808 and finally the 4308. The higher the price, the warmer and accurate the sound.
