Over a year ago our house was burglarized and all my electronics were stolen even the surround sound system. The one item I really did not miss was the Bose system because it did not sound that good. I have been researching for a replacement system. I had a Pioneer VSX-912 and will most likely replace that with the Onkyo TX-SR605. For the speakers I was going to buy the Atlantic Technology 920s. When I mentioned this to the wife she just had one request - no subwoofer. Does anyone have any suggestions for this replacement system with the $1000 budget (for the speakers). The room is already wired for two front and two back speakers 19' across and it's 15' deep. The speaker configuration is not ideal as all four speakers were installed by our remodel contractor in each corner of the room. Will 920's still be sufficient without a subwoofer or is there another smallish speaker that I can mount from the ceiling (as I did the Bose speakers). This system will primarily be used as a home theater and secondly for music. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Also, towers are no good because we have a baby on the way.

You have to go and audition some bookshelves at local shops. There are many that would fit your needs. Unfortunately, without a sub, you won't get that wall-shaking bass for movies :(

Can you run towers? You could get towers with built in subs... then just buy some small matching sats to go in the other spots.
