Hi all, you can read the full thread as to what all promted this in the general section...

however I thought a quick blurb in the receiver subforum might be best.

Basically--should I upgrade my Sony ES V333 to the Marantz SR6003?
Only in terms of audio sound is it worth it? Am i going to clearly hear a better sound?

BTW it'll be pushing B&W 602 S2's.

Thanks

I believe that the Marantz SR6003 is a good match for your B&Ws.

And I bet it will sound better than your Sony too. But then I hate Sony.

From what I read so far on the 6003, I'll say go with it. And just sell your Sony.
I feel very positive that you will love the 6003, and that you'll be happy with your decision to upgrade.

Forget the sony. I have never liked the way their AVR's sound I know most avr's should not have a "sound" but the Sony stuff has not midrange for me I don't know why that is but...... The Marantz will be great with the B&W's....

Is this the one?

I will be an upgrade:
5.1 -> 7.1
bi-amp
more power
HDMI
Audissey
Latest audio HD support
ugly -> beautifull

As for SQ, I have no idea :rolleyes: The only this I can say is that Marantz is very well regarded in that aspect.

thanks for the replies.

sheesh this is difficult.

Djizasse-I know all the other added benefits I'd be getting which are nice but nothing I need right now--so not worth the cost JUST for those at the moment.

CraigV-so I assume you're saying I will hear noticeable SQ improvements?

I know some love and hate the Sony line. I was just over at my local HI-FI store (very trusted/knowledeable guy), and even though they love and sell the Marantz he was also all about the older Sony ES reciever line that I have...he didn't think I'd hear any sound improvement whatsoever.

Can you elaborate on bass management benefits???
-this is interesting because i've never been able to get what I think is the most potential between my mains and my sub (b&w A600 i believe?)

Sorry...years ago I was so into all this stuff, but ever since I've just been enjoying the benefits of my budget minded system. not up on the lingo these days.

Your receiver does not allow for selectable crossover(this was common on most mid fi avrs back then), but to 1 single point. Also filters cannot be applied to correct room issues with the lfe/bass/midd bass which are common. Unless you just dont want the new gear, it will be an improvement over what you have in more ways than one.

As long that you can use a 80hz x-over on all your speakers, you'll be very fine with the Marantz SR6003. Just make sure that your surrounds are not the type with a small 4 inches woofer. A 5.5" should do just fine.

And you are going to love that SR6003, compared to your Sony.
Improvement, you should notice, plus with Audyssey MultEQ, definitively.
And the 6003 is at a good deal right now too.
