Repair Onkyo TX-2000?

I have an Onkyo TX-2000 that bought about 1975. It has served me well. I had it into a shop 6(?) years ago (for what I do not remember) and the tech said it was a nice piece.
About a year ago the right channel started being sensitive. Certain positions on the volume or balance would cause it to drop out or get very faint. Last fall my wife moved the shelves it was sitting on to get at something and the unit collapsed. The tuner stayed on the shelf that fell, but the 3 foot drop did not do it any favors. It still worked but since then there have been no lights on the front.
Now this week the right channel disappeared completely. Swapping speakers verify it is not the speakers or wires.
I am thinking it is time for a replacement, but some of the forums I visited seemed to think that some tuner amps of that vintage were worth repairing.
What do you think?

Hi Spector, and Welcome to Audioholics Forums.

I think that you'd be better off just buying a more recent Stereo receiver at "Audiogon" for very little money that will easily outperform your Onkyo TX-2000.
The money spent trying to fix it will buy you a nice stereo receiver, with much more power and of a much more recent vintage. Check some Yamaha, Denon stereo receiver ones. Yamaha has usually a good tuner section. I'm sure that you can find one at Audiogon for less than $100 or so.

So, not worth it in my book, to try getting it fix.

Regards,

Bob

Since you can get a fully functional used unit for under $80, no, a repair would cost at least that much:)
