Repair HK AVR-7300 or buy new?

About 4 years ago, I purchased a new HK AVR-7300 from an acquaintance that worked at HK/Infiniti (could not have afforded it otherwise). My wife and I used it daily, loved it, what a great piece of equipment. Last Saturday while watching TV, it began to smoke from the top. I jumped up, turned off the power and then pulled the plug. I don’t have a lot of electrical experience, but after removing the case, I can tell you it is not a fuse, nor is it either of the twin caps, all the boards look intact, but it did smoke from the front of the unit which makes me think it was the transformer :)confused:).

I’m in need of advice from others who might have had a similar experience. Do I take it in for repairs (which could run anywhere from 200 up..?), store it for a later project and buy new, sell it for parts :(, etc?

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can provide, thanks. btw, I'm in the Los Angeles area.
