Repair Help - Sony CDP-C89ES

After 17 years it finally stopped working, and even then only what I'd consider a minor mechanical failure.

Seems the large, cogged rubber belt that runs the circumference of the 5-disc platter, allowing a motor/gear combo to rotate the platter, has failed. I talked to Sony and they don't offer the part for sale anymore :(

By any chance is there an aftermarket company that may be able to help me? The player is in excellent condition otherwise and while it's not the end-all be-all I'm rather attached to it.

Thx.

If you haven't already, check the web for Sony replacement part stores. I came across this site that sells replacement parts for Sony. I didn't see a belt for your player, but that doesn't mean that it isn't there. You could contact them to see if they have one.

Do you know the part number for that belt? If you've taken it out, perhaps it has the number printed on it? Searching for that part number might make it easier to find a replacement.

This site also sells replacement belts. I don't see your model number, but if you can get the part number, you might find it there.

Thanks Adam, I'll check them out during business hours.

The Sony Rep was nice enough to send me by Email a PDF of the relevant pages of the Repair Manual. The exploded diagram shows the belt but it's labeled 'Not Available' with no reference to a part #.

I'm no Technician, but when I pulled the top cover off I was able to see just two belts, the very much smaller of the two being the one that transfers torque from the motor to the drive gear that rotates the platter via the larger belt that I need. The small belt has easy access but the larger platter belt is nested deeper than I wanna' dig.

I'm not sure if the large platter belt is broken, stretched or just off its track, so I'm hesitant to cut it out to inspect it for a part #. I suppose I should just pay a Tech the 70 bucks or so and get a full diagnosis. If after that we discover the existing belt can be replaced/repaired/aligned, I'm good to go. If it does need to be replaced and there is no part available, well... I'm out $70 and faced with selling it as a parts mule I guess.
