Hi
I am trying to figure out how to program the main remote for a AVR 3808ci reciever. I am trying to preset the remote so it will control a Marantz BD7003 blue ray player. The owners manual says for step 3 that you "press [number] and input the 5-diget number of the brand of the component to be preset." What exactly is the [NUMBER] I am suppose to press?
Thanks in advance, Mike

Denon didn't plan too far ahead when they printed that manual, did they?

What year do you suppose that receiver was made? 2007 or so? Now, what year wasthat Blu-ray player released? 2010?

I think they can be forgiven for not publishing device codes three years or so before a device is released, don't you?

Maybe this link might help but, if worse comes to worse, I believe you can program the remote, function for function by some long, laborious process by facing them at each other and pushing buttons is a certain sequence. At least my 2802 allows that, but I never bothered. Check your manual.

Or, does Denon have some sort of firmware update for the remote? Might be worth a call.

thanks

Thank you for your response. There may not be a code for this bp, but that's not the problem. In the users manual it says in step 3 to "press [number] and input the 5-digit number of the brand of the component to be preset." I dont understand what they mean by that. in the users manual it shows that the "number" is a set of 9 numbers at the bottom of the remote. If I press one of these numbers first, it wont take the whole 5 digit code.

Welcome to the forum, Mike!

The first thing that I'd try is to just enter the 5-digit code. So, after holding "RC SETUP" for three seconds, just enter one of the Marantz codes (e.g. 11454). You can keep trying all of the Marantz codes to see if one will work. Odds are, you'll be able to operate some of the commands because they probably kept the same IR codes for the blu-ray player as they used on their other disc players.

The 3808 remotes is the worst remote I have ever used.

I jacked around with mine for about 11 minutes and then threw it against the wall and got a Harmony.

The secondary remote that game with the 3808 is just fine for a simple remote though...

Thanks so much. that was driving me crazy. The codes in the manual do not work. Has Denon issued any new codes for the newer BP's. Thinking about buying an Oppo 105 BD player, any thoughts on that?

Probably, but osdds are they are included with the newer units and are for units that are contemrpary to the more current units.

Ultimately, whether there are new codes or not, the problem will be having the remote respond to them. That would be a firmware issue with the remote.

Or, as I suggested earlier, you might want to give Denon a call. They would know better than us what your options are.
