Hi
I use my PS3 Remote to playback mp3s to my outdoor speakers because it has such an excellent range, i can use it from outside th house near the grill.(Ha-Ha)
Does any one know of a manufactured universal remote for say, a CD player that offers this range?

My X10 iconRemote has a really good range on it. It's not RF, but it may work. (I can point it in the opposite direction of my Home Theater setup and it will still control everything.)

Here is the website. www.x10iconremote.com

If not that, I read something about a battery that you can pop in any IR remote that makes it RF. I have not used it, but it sounds cool.

Well... I use my Crestron remote from about half a block from my house.

Not exactly inexpensive, but you may find very good results with a Unversal Remote Control remote with the RF base station.

RF Remote

I got the URC-300 touchscreen LCD remote w/ RF basestation for just over $100. The RF has a 100 foot range and goes through walls. The base station has 6 IR blasters for connecting to each component. The remote also has a pretty good IR range of about 15-20'.

To be able to reliably use the remote outside, it must be RF. IR requires line of sight so even if it has a strong emitter (or two) like the Home Theater Master remotes, it won't work reliably unless you can point it at the IR sensor of the equipment.

I can use my HTM MX-350 in IR mode from the patio too - but it's only because when standing at the grill with the patio door open I can aim it right at the IR sensor on the receiver.
