Hello all, I was given a Pioneer VSX-532. It didn't however come with a remote. I found one match on ebay for 40 bucks. If I must, I'll purchase it. But as I'm a penny pincher (read tight-a**) I was hoping to find something cheaper. Do I have any alternatives? Thank you.

I’ve bought a number of replacement remotes on ebay and elsewhere, and I’ve never seen one that cheap. Does that help?

Thanks, yes it does, I see a lot of universals for 8-15 dollars....of course you do get what you pay for. Probably best if I don't throw good money after bad.

Universals will only have basic functions. Not bad if you want a simpler remote for everyday use, but definitely only secondary to the main one.

Altho some universals are easy to program with a database, those inexpensive ones you do manually and getting full functionality could be some work.....there are also universal remotes that come with a database like Logitech's Harmony series, altho to get full functionality of the remote can take a bit more work than the initial download of the avr functions from the database....but those will generally cost more than one specific to the avr. If you're super cheap you could just operate the avr with the front panel :)

Thanks, yeah, I'm super cheap but also super lazy. I will probably opt for the Harmony in the end.
