Remote Control - two TV's in same room

I have two TV's in the same room hooked up to DISH. The is a beach house, so I don't have a complex setup with amps or surround, etc... I use the TV's sound. The problem is that when I try to mute or turn the volume up/down, both TV's change, rather than the one I want to change. Any advice?

Are they both the same brand of TV? Some units allow you to assign different remote control codes to them for this type of situation. I'd say check that out in the owner's manuals. Let us know the model numbers of the TVs if you'd like us to look into it.

If Adam's suggestion does not pan out, you can buy a universal remote that outputs RF only. That assumes a blaster/receiver with an emitter stuck to one of the TV's IR sensor. I do not have a suggestion for you on which to buy. My own is the RFS200 package ($76 atm) but the problem there is that it outputs both RF and IR simultaneously.

If you can afford that, and find that you can't afford an RF-only-capable remote for some reason, then you can cover the remote's emitter with something thick, I dunno, duct tape perhaps? This method requires use of at least two remotes. Otherwise, with an RF-only-capable remote, you might perhaps be able to control one macro (first TV) with IR functions programmed, and the other macro (second TV) with RF only for example.

I had the same problem with 2 Hd boxes. When one was on, I'll press the power button but turn the other one on in the process.

Maybe it's worth a try to limit the viewing angle of the infrared receiver of each TV, using a piece of paper or cardboard.

You can't change the remote control codes, the problem here is that the tv's are on the same frequency. And there's no solution for this.
