Hi everyone this is my first post, I was looking around on here but couldnt find the info. I needed......Anyway I'm looking for a universal remote to control my Directv Hd receiver (it's non dvr), Sony kdl-46ve5 lcd, sony str-ks360 a/v receiver (I have everything running through this by hdmi) actually it's home theater in a box # Ht-ss360, and a PS3........I do know the ps3 would need an adapter to work with a U. remote and I'm not interested in doing that (i already have the ps3 remote so I'd have to use 2 remotes I think but thats ok.

How about the Sony RMVL610 remote? It has gotten good reviews and it's cheap??

Thanks in advance everyone

$75.99 from Amazon with free shipping

BandPhan makes a great recommendation. I got this form of the product because it has RF ( you can control devices behind closed cabinet doors)
URC RFS200 PowerPak Bundle w/ MasterControl RF20 and PowerBlaster
You can easily program three ways "pre-programmed ( supports lotsof Sony devices", "learning" and "macro". It has a high WAF (Wife Approval Factor) because it is easy to use ;) it is also easy to set-up

Now the real test of how well I really, really like it. My wife saw the advertisementsfor the Harmone One on TV and asked my would you like one of those? I thought about it and said 'NO" --I am very happy with the RF20.

I'm sorry, but I cannot condone buying a universal remote. Everyone knows the more remotes you have the bigger your.....system is.

I purposely use as many remotes as possible for the simple fact no one will be able to touch my stuff because they can't figure out how to turn it on. :D

Welcome to the forum (lots of great folks here...) For what it is worth a logitech Harmony 670 should work great w/ your gear. It will work w/ your Sony equipment and is great for direct tv. What I like is to set it up you connect to you PC via USB and put in the model #s of your equipment and set it all up using their software... Use is then easy for anyone... I have younger kids and they can point the remote at our system and it will switch to what they want: watch sat, CDs, movies, Wii... and they don't have to monkey around w/ the settings.

However, I'm sure there are a lot of remotes that would serve your purpose...

Good luck

As other have said there are quite a few very good universal remotes. The Harmonys seem to get decent reviews. My one comment:

Be VERY weary of buying any higher line remotes from un-authorized resellers (like products from URC, RTI, Nevo, etc.) Specifically remotes that require software to program them. Many of the manufactures will not provide the programming software anymore to the public. Only Certified Installers or Authorized Re-Sellers can obtain it.

Makes programming for newer devices where you want to obtain updated IR databases... a pain in the arse. I have a URC MX-850 that I purchased on eBay a few years ago. The latest firmware or software that I can get legitimately to program it is from 2007. When setting up new equipment like my Oppo Blu-ray... I end up having to "learn" all the codes.

Again... not really an issue in the Logitech Harmony remotes or other Universal Remotes that don't need software. Just an FYI
