I have a Denon AVR 3805 and the remote is practically useless. The remote is hardly bright enough to see at night, impossible during day hours. I've been recommended the new remote for the AVR 3806, however in Australia it retails at around 100 pounds.
Can anyone who has used the remote tell me if it is any good ie worth spending the money or am I better to try a universal remote.

Thanks

Most remotes bundled with the equipment are an afterthought (ie cheap for the manufacturer). You are always better off with a high quality universal remote - Home Theater Master or Logitech Harmony.

Hopefully your remote works well enough to transmit a signal a few inches so you can teach a real universal remote.

Before you pitch the remote in the garbage, put in a fresh set of batteries: it seems this particular remote is quite susceptable to "dimming" when the batteries start to go.

Getting a 3806 remote for your 3805 is leaping out of the frying pan and into the fire. I know whereof I speak. I now use a Harmony for my 3806, TV, DVD player and cable box.

3805 vs 3806 remotes

I have owned both the Denon AVR-3805 (which I had to return due to a defective unit) and the AVR-3806. In my opinion, the remote for the 3805 was far superior to the 3806 remote. The 3806 remote touch-sensitive pad is not as sensitive as the 3805 remote and the icons are smaller on the 3806 and closer together making it hard to engage the correct icon. I would much rather have the 3805 remote back.

Each of these remotes have control to adjust the brightness of the display. Perhaps yours was inadvertantly reduced in intensity.

I also have a Logitek Harmony 880 Universal Remote. Although it makes the task of turning everything on to the correct configuration much easier, I still prefer to use the remotes that come with the products since everything the remote can do is right there in front of you (that is you don't have to search through a maze of menus to do what you want).

I for one love the 3805 remote. It took some getting used to, but I'd say the poster who advised you to try new batteries is spot on. My remote is a friggin' light cannon! One thing I really love about it is that you can choose how long it will stay lit- that's a nice feature. I opt to have mine stay lit for (something like) 15 seconds. This is a bit hard on batteries, but batteries are cheap.:D
