To all those who did not come home to their families, we owe our eternal gratitude.

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields."

In Flanders Fields
by Major John McCrae, May 1915

No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.
George S. Patton

I've heard this quoted by American warriors (yes warriors, the men and woman who do this now are devoted to what they do, there's no more sitting around waiting for something to happen every couple years, you sign up now, your going somewhere) only second to"Full Metal Jacket" and "Apocalypse Now" quotes.
