Remanufactured H/K Stuff???

I was wondering if anyone had experience or thoughts on the remanufactured peices that Harman Kardon puts on their eBay store. What is "Z stock" exactally? I really need a new receiver to replace my bedroom one (an 1983 H/K 490i). I like the these receivers, and want to stay under 200 bucks if I can.

Any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

HK refurbs

I know that HK includes a full warranty (2 years on receivers) when you buy from their e-bay store. Most other refurbs only include a limited warranty like 90 days. I was looking closely at a refurbished HK AVR-235, but I found a good deal on a new yamaha so I got it instead. I think that the AVR-135 is all you will find in the $200 range.

Harman Audio is a great. Fantastic customer service and at a great price. I highly recommend them.

I picked up a refurbished receiver from them about a year ago. It came with a bad processor...could only play in stereo. After about five minutes on the phone, the customer service rep. e-mailed me a pre paid postage label and I sent it back. As soon as they got it a New one was sent to me as a replacement. I was very impressed. The price was great too. If you spend some time searching their site and watching the items you can get one he11 of a deal!

HK's warranty is the best I've seen for refurbished receivers.
I would buy one if I found a good price.

But on Ebay, people are nuts! I have been looking for a deal on a refurbished thru Harman Audio, but some idiots keep bidding up the price until they end up buying the refurbished unit for about $20 less than I can get it for new.

So I am likely just buying new. To me, I would need to save about 40% off new to make it worthwhile. (thats 40% off whatever price I could get it for, not the MSRP)

I've owned two HK refurb units with no problems. It's a great way to save a few bucks and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another refurb unit again.

I bought one and know several that did from the ebay store HK Direct. You can get great deals, but you need to be patient, because there are many who bid up the 24hr auctions past reasonable (+shipping and possibly tax). Pick your unit and a price you're willing to pay, watch it and swoop. There's always a feeding frenzy. Took me about 10 trys.

I spent about two months watching a few different models. I would bid with 30 seconds or so left in the auction. I ended up paying $535 for a 7200 (msrp $1999). That was almost a year ago and a that time used ones were going for about $700 with no warranty. Id say I got a good deal! For this model, the technology is not the "latest and greatest", but for what I need...its one hell of a receiver!

LoL, one of those people were probably me. I live in Canada so it costs me a lot more then it costs you guys. I have been looking all over the place for used and new. The cheapest new HK AVR 7300 that I could find in Canada would cost me over $3000! I bought mine off ebay for $1000 Canadian and it came with the Logitech Harmony 890 remote which is awesome.

Giuseppe, how'd you purchase it in Canada? Their auctions say that they'll only take payments from American credit cards or American Paypal. I'm asking because I'd like to get one, too.

It wasnt easy, let me just say that. I had to find my friend in minnesota who bought it for me. Then he shipped it to me. The only ****ty thing is that the warranty is void if it leaves the US. Of course I could always ship it back to my friend so he can ship it back to HK, but it is a lot of waiting.

For 33% of your original price...the waiting is worth it!

I've purchased two units from the HK store on ebay. It's been a good experience. No problem at all with the first - but the second arrived with shipping damage. I sent HK an email they sent me back a return authorization and shipped another to me immediately after they recieved my damaged one. Besides that - they sound great!!
