Hey Guys :)

Pretty new to the forumn and home audio... Has anyone used the REL R-305 and if so what's your impressions. I was in the process of purchasing the following system but am having trouble deciding on a sub.

Also any input on my purchase would be appreciated. It's gonna be used for movies, games, music (in that order)

Front: Paradigm Studio 60's
Rear: Paradigm Studio 20's
Center: Paradigm cc570
Sub: (Sunfire or REL:) )
Receiver: Arcam 350

Since you will use it for mostly movies and gaming, I would purchase the Sunfire.

If those are the only two options then I'd also go with the Sunfire. If not and you want one with a small size, I'd suggest the Def Tech SuperCube I. SVS will also be offering something with a smaller footprint in the near future. Nice system btw.

Yeah, the thing I was kinda torn about was auditiong the system in stereo 2 channel it seemed that the sunfire would only work using a digital crossover through the receiver. However as the REL has a built in crossover you could run it straight analog and not mess around with the one on the receiver making it sound much better to my ear?

What do you guys prefer analog or digital?

I'm a audio newbie don't be too harsh :)

edit: spelling

Neither. I was very disappointed in the Sunfire subs - especially for the price. The REL is only a 10" sub, and won't do much with movies based on it's Hz floor spec. If you want a small footprint sub, go with the company that knows bass. These will be shipping in 30 days.

Seriously, I have no life.
[I will second Buckeye's input.
Many years ago there were discussion on that truesub. It is a 1 trick pony, and you will not get the amp power into it as has been claimed.

Let the receiver do the crossover duties, this is a no brain-er.

I'm trying to not degrade the sound quality, I was kinda under the impression passing the signal through the dsp on the receiver does degarde the sound quality. It seemed that when we ran the signal direct i.e. bypassing the Arcams dsp the music sounded completly different, and ultimately better. Does this sound correct?

Using the receivers bass managment is not a DSP. DSPs can be turned off. It's easier to blend, and connect, by just using the receivers crossover, and setting it to the appropriate frequency.
