I found a hack for my dvd player on the internet the other day that will switch my player from region 1 to region free or 0. I was wondering if i should try it. What would be the benefit of doing this or just your thoughts should i try it or not.

I have done the region free code setting to my Oppo and it worked fine. The advantage for me was my family goes to the UK yearly and once in a while we will buy dvd's and this allows us to play them in the states.

The ONLY benefit of doing it is that it would enable you to play DVDs from other regions. If you don't have any such discs, then it will do you no good at all. However, it should not harm anything, either.

There is one other thing to remember when buying discs from other regions, and that is that many of them are PAL discs (not the NTSC standard as in the U.S.), and whether your player and/or TV can deal with PAL or not is a separate issue from the region issue.
