I was on a search of something to watch and came across Red State. Reviews were mixed, but I had two hours to kill and figured how bad can it be.

Here is the preview: (NSFW, Language)

I actually liked it. It wasn't exactly original, but some of the parallels drawn were kind of interesting. Also mix this without taking itself too seriously, and the movie is pretty entertaining. John Goodman is great, whoever plays the pastor is exceptional.

Picture quality is great considering it seems to be a low budget film (I watched a few minutes of the behind the scenes and looks like they shot on Red One). Editing is okay. Sound quality is actually pretty good too, crank it up.

Verdict: Worth a rental.

I barely remember it except for the part about hating it and thinking less of myself for not having anything better to do than watch that. It wasn't worth the $1.25 redbox rental.

Yea, I am a big Kevin Smith fan, but this was a crash and burn at best.

Hehe, that's why it's important to read the comments after the review folks. Seems I'm a minority on this one. ;)

I thought it was alright. I watched it on NF streaming. Not sure why it was called Red State though?

The name of "red" and "blue" states comes from the history of the state, and it's trend of voting either democrat or republican. Blue is the democrat's color and red is the color of the republicans.
The movie was more of a propaganda piece. The same people that believe red states and their families are that extreme are the same ones that think the John Stewart show on the Comedy Channel is real a news show.:D
I've liked most Kevin Smith's stuff in the past. I grew up ten minutes from where he filmed Clerks. I guess directors and actors have to somehow earn their left wing street cred.
