Recs on Passive Sub; Have amp, need sub.

I have the Dayton dedicated sub amp HPSR 1000 (500 w), and am interested in any recommendations for passive subs. I am surprised to find them scarce. SVS does not make their CS series anymore, and I have not been able to find other models from other companies, at least not ones easy to buy online nor in my price range (<$400). I do not want to build my own nor is IB an option. The SVS CS 25-31 is the one most appropriate for my room and setup, but I have not seen any on ebay, audiogon, or any other used equipment site. Recommendations, information, offers, or any other info is appreciated.

I see that you already found Joe's classified ad. Those CS models come up for sale here from time to time, but not all that often. I'd say keep checking those sites and craigslist because they do come available.

Have you contacted SVS to see if they still offer those? I haven't seen them on their website for a while, but perhaps they still have some. Just a thought.

Thanks Adam. Through a Google search, I found a link to an original SVS page for the CS model, but apparently was just an orphan page floating out there in cyberspace. I emailed SVS and they confirmed that they no longer make or sell them. Even they suggested ebay or audiogon. I though that I would find some models from subwoofer specialty makers (Danley, eD, etc.), but nothing is in the ballpark.

Too bad that they don't make them anymore. I imagine that the demand wasn't very high, but it was a nice option to have.

You might consider putting up a want-to-buy thread in the classifieds section. It might get the attention of someone who has one sitting around unused.

I would post a WTB, but it states that I must have 25 posts before I can post a classified; not sure if that applies to WTB threads or not. I will try. Still trying to get 5 posts just so I can PM Joe (who still has not responded to my inquiry yet).

Would you buy a cabinet and a driver and then install the driver in said cabinet?

I wanted to avoid the DIY route, if that is what you are talking about, because I would end up with a crappy looking plywood box. I know that Parts Express offers precut cabinets and many driver options, but I also do not want to cobble together a sub of unknown parameters and possibly poor performance. I also read that their cabinet is fairly flimsy without good internal bracing.
Are you referring to something else?

Well, you could have a cabinet company make one... but yes, That is what I was referring to. There are a few ways you could make those cabinets better. As far as performance goes, quite frankly, you'd have to spend A LOT more cash to have a production sub that could keep up. "Shop Audio Video" has the Eclipse SW8200 in stock for 2 hundred bucks. Pair it with the 3cuft premade box and you'd be in subsonic bliss.
