Looking to add a CD Changer to my system. I had a 300 disc Sony and got tired of the CD's getting jammed so moving to a simpler unit.
Is this something were you might consider used equipment?

Appreciate any input

My recommendation would be to look into DVD changers. A few years ago, I bought a 5-disc Panasonic DVD changer - love it. It does everything that I used to use my 5-disc CD changer for...plus a lot more (like play DVDs).

Because DVD changers are more popular than CD changers, DVD changers cost less even though they do more (at least, the last time that I checked into them). That's the biggest reason that I recommended looking into those. You may never use the DVD function, but why pay more for something that does less? :)

I use an Onkyo DX-C390. Got it as a refurb from ShopOnkyo.com for less than a $100. AC4L.com also sells refurb Onkyo for about the same price. Looks new, works sounds, sounds good.

Frankly, if you don't need a remote, a thrift store will probably be the best value. Occasionally they will have one with a remote, but often people lose their remotes, so most likely there won't be one with it at a thrift store. I have purchased Marantz and Onkyo CD changers at thrift stores for under $40 each. I like Onkyo for CD changers, because they seem to be the only ones making carousel changers that hold 6 CDs.

And as long as I have owned them, they have never failed. I sold the Marantz I bought that way, but am using an Onkyo from a thrift store in my living room system, and have been using it trouble-free for several years. I did, however, end up buying a remote for it on eBay, so if you want a remote, buying a refurb, if you can find one for under $100, would probably be a good idea.

From a reliability standpoint, single disc and carousel CD changers are generally about as reliable as any component that contains a mechanism. Receivers (and the parts that make up receivers) and speakers (without foam surrounds) are about the only things that are generally more reliable.

Another option is to keep an eye on eBay auctions, sorting by those nearest to you, and bidding on units in your area for which the seller allows local pickup.

Sony SCD-CE595. I have one.
Funny thing, I got mine used with remote for $40!
And, it was literally LIKE BRAND NEW.

New from Best Buy, though, is about $150 still though.

Also does a good job of playing SACD's.

Best picture I have of it right now.
