Does anyone have a tip for something that really cleans/works?

What are you willing to spend? They can get pretty pricey. I went with a Spin-Clean and it works fairly well....but I'm cheap.

Agreed on all accounts.

When I start looking at devices like the Nitty Gritty, I could replace a large portion of my vinyl with new vinyl for the price of that machine!

Couldn't you make 2 disks with a rubber gasket, hole for a bolt through the middle. Clamp it over the label to protect? Essentially 2 hockey pucks. That way you could thoroughly 'wash' the record without damaging the label. I'm sure if it was that easy we would have seen it by now....

They all work. If you're buying used records of dubious handling / environment, you may want to look at some of the higher cost options. If you are just trying to care for records of good condition, and you handle the LPs properly, everything from the simple Discwasher brush / liquid or a Carbon Fibre brush and on up works fine.

I've just used a carbon fiber brush or light soft towel. Read up a little bit a while back on the topic and at times people get very paranoid, especially in the sense that you could easily damage a record by using a cleaner that can deteriorate the vinyl or that you could essentially cake on any dust or grim further into the grooves.
@Johnny2Bad i agree 100% The majority consensus I saw is to give them a quick brush before and after use as most dust will settle on top of the grooves not in them. On older records that do require a more thorough cleaning with liquids and rinsing them, the concern is getting the label wet. I have a handful of 1st edition 1st press that I wouldn't mind 'deep' cleaning but I'd hate to destroy the wall, plus I rarely play my 'collector' albums, I know what's the fun in that haha
