Ok... bargain shopping and need advice on best combo. Won off ebay a Rotel 1050 (70x2) and a Marantz (120x2) SM80 amplifiers.... ONly intend to keep one of them if any. Then I learned my Denon AVR884 does not have preouts! So selling that off and going to buy a new receiver in the 500 range. The denon had nice features, but power wasn't great on that model. I tend to believe that weight, indicating heavier transformer seems indicate power better than advertised claims.
I am also planning to move to NHT speakers which can be less efficient than my Mirages (small towers).
I intend to use separate 2 channel amp for mains, either completely or biamping.
Anyway... I'm considering the following:
Pioneer Elite 52 or Marantz 5400 if I use separate amp
Pioneer Elite 54 or Marantz 7400 and maybe not use amp at all (sell em off)
I'm also wondering if the auto calibration will be off good use - I'm somewhat stuck with a 5.1 config. (7.1 maybe for biamping?)
