2 years ago I bought an OLED and at the time paired it with an LG SJ9 sound bar due to space constraints. Now I have a space that could easily hold any size 5.1 system so I'm looking to upgrade. Trying to keep the budget modest, let's say $2k (not firm). Any recommendations on where to start searching would be greatly appreciated. I'm not expecting top of the line equipment with this budget but I would like something that's a substantial improvement over the sound bar. Thanks!
For AVR, if you are in the US or Canada, try search for the best available discounted price for the 2018 models. In case you want to expand to 5.1.2 or 7.1 and/or have the ability to an external amplifiers in the future, take a look of the RX-A1080 and AVR-X3500H. If you can wait, the X3500H should go for $599-$699 brand new with 3 years warranty. The rest of your budget should probably be split 30/50 between a good subwoofer and the other 5 speakers. It may be worth up your budget by 20% or so to get a better subwoofer, unless your room is small.
On a tight budget, I would suggest you consider some of those Andrew Jones designed speakers such as the Pioneer and Elac's bookshelf models (or small towers for the L/R if you prefer). For subwoofers, take a look of those by SVS or HSU.
