Recommendations for a subwoofer with a wireless remote

I bought myself an Outlaw Audio M8 subwoofer, and I let my girlfriend borrow it, so she could hear what home theater sounds like with a subwoofer. Needless to say, she was impressed. And she would like one for herself, but she wants one with a wireless remote, so that she can raise and lower the volume of just the subwoofer, without also adjusting the volume of the receiver.
(don't ask me why she wants to do it that way , but that's what she wants).

Anyway, recommendations for a subwoofer with a wireless remote for a room that is 10 by 15 ft? Her receiver will probably be a Denon 1912. She says it will be more for music than movies; me, I think it will be more half-to-half ...

Thoughts? I don't think she needs a 10in for a room that size, I think an 8 in might be enough.

You can do that with the receiver itself. I believe you just hit the Amp button on the remote and you are given a screen with the various outputs. You just go down to subwoofer and press left to decrease it in dB.

Really! I had no idea ... then again, she has not (yet) purchased the Denon, so I had no way of know. :) I will pass that along. And we can try that with my Outlaw M8, and see if it works that way ...

Thanks!

Adjusting the volume of the speakers
You can adjust the channel level either according to the playback sources or to suit your taste, as described below.

Adjusting the volume of the different speakers
1
Press ZONE SELECT to switch the zone mode to J (MAIN ZONE). The J indicator lights.
2
Press AMP to set the remote control unit to AMP-operation mode.
3
Press CH LEVEL.
4
Use up/down to select the speaker. The speaker that can be set switches each time one of the buttons is pressed.
5
Use left/right to adjust the volume.

That's from the manual. Sounds similar to my Onkyo. I press the Audio button, select Audio, then scroll down to Subwoofer and hit left/right to change the level.

Is that the whole volume of the sub, or just an adjustment range? Can you completely remove the volume of the sub that way (so you can hear it without sub, if you want), while not changing the volume of the other speakers? Or add to the sub volume?

Can you tell that those are the questions she emailed me, after I told her what you said? :D

You can raise and lower the sub volume that way, but not totally shut it off. Shutting it off is easy though. You just go to "setup" -->"speaker config (iirc)"-->"subwoofer:no"

So here's what she told me:

"I think I'd prefer a wireless remote to the subwoofer. Going into the receiver settings, even onscreen, seems time-consuming. Most volume adjustments would be per songs, or per movie scene. they would need to be quick. when i watch TV I literally have my finger on the volume control at all times."

Yes, she actually does change the volume that often, sometimes every minute ... and no, I don't understand it.

So I'm on the looking out for a sub with an actual remote, not just a receiver with on-screen adjustments.

Recommendations?

I would tend to agree. Menus suck. Velodyne’s DLS-series subs come with a remote control. Alternately, a used Chase RLC-1 will make any sub remote-controlled.

Aperion makes a pretty decent sub, all of which have a wireless remote. I owbed Aperion until I went to an SVS sub, I was pleased with sound and operation of the Aperion.
