Hi,

I am looking to buy a 3.1 setup that will be used both for music and HT. Since I am a classical musician in profession, I will need a system that will be geared towards music, hopefully one that will still sound good with HT. The system will be placed in an apartment, in a medium sized room. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated. (Possible candidates for the tower speakers: EMP E55Ti, Aperion T5, any other suggestions are welcome)

What instrument do you play?

I've never heard any of the speakers you listed. If I were you, I might consider starting with two speakers only, if that allows budget to get better speakers.

I've never heard them, but if I was buying today, I'd check out Salk speakers. They are more expensive than the ones you are looking at, but if you just get a pair, you might be able to swing it.

Some monopolar speakers that do pretty well with classical, IMO, are Ascend Acoustics and B&W 800 series ($$$$).

I listen to almost all of my music, by far mostly classical, on electrostats.

I also would recommend using a third identical speaker upright for your eventual center speaker, if mch music will play a great role. This will include blurays. Even though I only sometimes have a classical bluray in my separate HT, I still often ponder the idea of going with an acoustically transparent screen so that I could accommodate the three vertically arrayed speakers, on the same plane.

EDIT: Oh, haha, thread title says 2k, yeah, I'd try some Salk towers, very likely . . .

How about 2.2?

If you're more focused on music, maybe you don't need to spend the extra money for < 25hz, and 2 modest subs will give you a more even frequency response across the room.

Spend more on your front 2 now, add a center & surrounds later. Keep in mind that what ever front 2 you buy now will dictate the matching center later.

Heres what I would recommend to look at. PSB image T-5's floorstanding $899 http://www.psbspeakers.com/products/Imagine/Imagine-T-Tower, PSB image C4 center ch $275 http://www.psbspeakers.com/products/Imagine/Imagine-C-Center, and a Velodyne impact-10" sub $299 http://www.velodyne.com/products/product.aspx?ID=36&sid=281g732b

Grand total= $1475 est.

What kind of amp will you be using? I can help you with that as well. Now from my experience the image t-5 floorstanding are pretty good for the money. They are very warm neutral speakers which is great for classical music. Take everyones advice lightly and really get out and just sample speakers within your price range. Just because someone says its good doesn't mean you're gonna think they're good. Different strokes for different folks. Anymore questions, just pm me or post more on this thread.
