Hey guys, I am new to the site, but have been addicted to it the past week, spending a few hours a day reading reviews and forum threads. I read the review on the EMP EF30Ts a couple of days ago and then saw the HTP-371T system on sale for $789.00 and nearly lost my mind. Is this really a real deal? The EMP EF30Ts are listed at over $800 by themselves. If anyone can confirm that this is really a true deal I will place the order immediatly. Also, I will need a new receiver and I am considering the Yamaha RX-V663. Does anyone have a better suggestion on reciever? I was only able to convince my wife to let me get the speaker system since its over $1000 off lol, so I am trying to save on a reciever also. I am willing to spend $600 and according to a review, the EMP EF30Ts are suggested to be paired with atleast 100 watts. With these speakers, and new receiver and my two HSU STF-2 subs I think this system will definitly be an improvement over my current $200 HTiB. Thanks for anyones input. BTW I live in Okinawa Japan, does anyone know if audioholics ships to APO/AFO (military PO boxes?) Thanks again

The Yamaha 663 is a great receiver. Alternatives available for about the same price include Onkyo 606, HK 254, and Pioneer 1018.

Thanks Rnatilli, you got me looking into the onkyo's and I actually found a TX-SR806 on amazon which will ship to my APO address. It features 130X7 watts which is a significant amount of more power. Is this a good subsitution for the Yamaha? Also, anyone know about the speaker system?

The EMP special for December is at the link below.

http://www.audioholics.com/news/industry-news/emp-speaker-package-blowout-sale

If you search EMP on the audioholics website you will find this is a factory sponsored special where prices are being marked down to put more EMP systems into the hands of Audioholics to build good word of mouth advertising rather than spending a lot of money on print advertising. Gene says the systems are being sold below cost for advertising purposes. EMPs are basically internet distribution versions of RBH speakers (more or less) which means they are pretty good quality. Thats why the site references reviews of the RBH equivalents of the speakers on sale.

My brother ordered a HTP-351 5.1 Bookshelf system for $489 from the Audioholics store, a Onkyo 606 receiver from Amazon.com for $339 and about $30 of monoprice.com cables for a total system cost of about $859. If you have room for front tower speakers, the HTP-351T 5.1 Tower system for $689 looks really good too. I like these two systems because they have the RBH reviews so you can get some idea of the sound quality.

It is not a significant amount more power!! The difference only amounts to an increase in maximum volume of 1.3dB - the minimum difference most people can detect is 3dB which requires a doubling of amplifier power!!
Is this a good subsitution for the Yamaha?
The Yamaha 663 represent the best bang for the buck available. The RX-V663 is available from authorized dealer 6ave.com for $359 shipped if you phone Pete @ ext8618 and mention the "AVS" special.

Does the Onkyo have pre-outs? One very attractive thing about the 663 is that you can use it as a pre-processor. If it does not provide enough power to drive your mains, you can always add an outboard amp rather than having to buy a whole new receiver.
