May I please ask some assistance, my current Yamaha RXV 595a has a problem and I would like to upgrade to a new AV receiver, my system comprise of

B&W DM603 front
B&W centre
KEF cresta 1 as rear
Samsung 40 inch HD lcd
Yamaha CD
LG DVD

To be honest I was never sure of the RXV-595a was a good selection with my speakers as it sometimes felt to small in watt. I would appreciate some independent guidance. I will use for all round and mainly HT

I do like Yamaha / Maranz or HK but i am open to good advice in this regard

thank you very much in advance

kind regards
leonard

You don't give a budget but I would think an Onkyo TX-SR805, TX-SR876, or TX-NR906 should have plenty of power for them. Check Accessories For less for discounts on refurbished products.

Thanks a lot sholling, i am willing to spend approx $900 but I think the Onkyo are much more expensive her in South Africa. Entry level approx $1350

I have now receive quotes for a Maranz SR5003 at this price the SR5004 is a bit more. Do you think the SR5003 will be ok, from the website it is approx 90W the B&W are approx 150W, my room is not very big.

What do you all think should I rather spend extra for 5004 ??, thanks in advance

I would get the Marantz SR5003. The SR5004 is the upgraded model of the SR5003 and adds some better up conversion and more s-video inputs/outputs. In most cases you won't use the upconversion. Both have 90 watts per channel output, which should be fine for your speakers. And if you find it is not enough power you have 7.1 channel pre-outs so you could easliy add an external amp. The Marantz receivers are high quality and provide a 3 year warrahty.

Good Luck!

Another vote for the Marantz SR5003 - otherwise the Harman Kardon AVR2600/3600 is an excellent choice!

Gotta agree with KASR on the H/Ks. I own the AVR1600 (for a small living room) and would definitely recommend the 2600 or 3600 for those more-than-capable B&Ws :)

I find that yamaha receivers are great. Pioneer can pump the watts in if you plan on blasting your speakers but from your set-up and your small room i would go for the SR5003.

I manage to get hold of a new SR6004 at almost the same price and this Av is a beaty and with the iPod (USB) option and bluetooth this is a great receiver with enough of bang for me. Still a lot to learn but truely enjoy it for now.

thanks to everyone for help.
