Recommend amp for new system

Hey everyone. I'm new to these forums (Don't worry, I'm not going to type in all caps).

I am about to order a whole new theater system for myself on the first weekend of march.

The speakers I have chosen are as fallows:

Brand: Definitive Techonolgy
Models:
(2) BP7001SC
(1) SuperCube Referance
(1) C/L/R 3000
(4) BPVX/P

I am planning on doing a 7.1 system. I'm searching for an A/V receiver that does 1080p over firewire. I ask this because I got ****ed over when I purchased a Mitsubishi WD-73727 (73inch DLP). It cannot accept 1080p over HDMI, only firewire.

Is there such a receiver that does that and supports 7.1 ? I was hoping there was a way to use the full capabilities of my TV.

Thank you.

i have never heard of any receiver that does that, of course you could always send a video feed from firewire to the tv and then the audio capability to any receiver.

I wasn't aware that Firewire was capable of handling 1080p and audio simultaneously. However, if it is, this is the way to do it. Get a Denon or other receiver that has firewire, connect the source to the TV and then (I am only assuming the TV has a firewire input and output) connect the receiver the TV's firewire output. Since firewire is a smart system, it will automatically configure itself.

I would suggest sending the video signal directly to the display from your DVD player and/or Cable Box and not bother running it through the receiver. Run your audio to the receiver and that's it. It's a clean and simple way to handle a situation like yours.

The problem is most receivers I find have firewire, but it is only for Audio. I'm not sure, they're not too detailed on that.

//edit : There are very few blu-ray players that even have Firewire capabilities. There are no ways to up-convert through firewire right?

Does the TV have Firewire input and output or does it just have the input?

"INPUTS / OUTPUTS (DIGITAL)
-MonitorLink(tm) / HDMI with DVI Stereo Audio.............2(1 Compatible with VGA-XGA@60hz)
-IEEE1394 (MPEG2 / DV) Front/Rear...........................1/2
-Digital Audio Output (Dolby Digital / PCM)...................1(Coaxial)"

"AUDIO OUTPUTS (Analog)
-Stereo Audio Output...............................................1(Fixed)"

@Dave:
I read that thread, it didn't really explain much besides that IEEE1394 is able to send MPEG2 now.
Yeah, it's very problematic to have TV understanding MPEG2, but one can feed 1394 into computer which, in turn, would stream it into networked media player or decode by itself to feed display.

You might also check out the VidaBox.
http://www.vidabox.com/index.htm
Universal HD-DVD, BluRay drive and X-box 360 compatible and I see that it has a Firewire connector. You might want to contact them. They may have the solution. I guess its would be the same as the conclusion above, in a pre-packaged solution, i.e. stream it into networked media player.

Dave.

By the way, I love that speaker selection. You'd have 2x10" sub drivers, 4x10" passive radiators, 1x14" driver and 2x14" passive radiators with a combined 4800 watts of dedicated sub power. That's crazy awsome.

Thank you for the link. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what my options are.

I don't want anything too fancy for this HTPC, I just want all my signals running at 1080p to my TV.

Components--->Vidabox--->Firewire*1080p--->TV

Now if I do go with this HTPC Solution, how would I power my speakers?
I wouldn't need a regular A/V receiver, I would just need a plane ole amp right?

--Yes, I wanted something that would just make everyone drool. I'm getting a heck of a deal on them.

Well, you are not alone. I've been looking at this a while and there's more than a few people upset at Mitsu. One site is looking at a class action. http://www.hdblog.net/2005/11/25/review-mitsubishi-wd-62628/

I think you'll still need a reciever for the speakers because I don't think the VidaBox will process the audio signals (Dolby, etc.) and just about any receiver will work with a digital audio source from the VidaBox. From what I can see, there is no receiver that will output firewire, nor any 1080p device that outputs through Firewire. The VidaBox, if it works, may be your best bet for video processing.

So back to the start, why can't you connect the source to the television and then connect the television to the receiver? Pardon my ignorance, but I thought that would work.

Sort of what I said Seth, but instead send just the video directly to the display from the source and and just audio directly to the receiver from the source. If it's a video switching issue, a Harmony remote is a more robust solution IMO.

From what I've been reading, no device (hd-dvd, bluray, xbox360, etc) outputs 1080p signal through firewire and the Mitsu display only receives 1080p through firewire. You can't connect the source to the TV because no source yet exists that can supply that signal. It would have to be converted from another format, say HDMI, to firewire. No such converter exists either. A lot of people are upset that they have a 1080p capability, but no source outputs in the required format. It leaves MItsu owners up a particular creek and the paddles are back in the bait shop, so to speak.

Maybe he is using the HD-VCR with firewire.

Boy, I had to cut and paste that HD-VCR to search what it is. That's really pulling from the archives. Somehow, I don't think that the terms "1080p" and "VCR" belong in the same sentence, except this sentence, of course. ;)

1080i and 720p and it cost $1400 in '03.
Then why did they make a TV with 1080p in 2005? I guess the concept of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD was around at that time, but that doesn't match up with the firewire being the only one to support 1080p. The only other thing that I can thing I can think of would be use with a computer via firewire. Oh, well.:)

That's where the VidaBox comes in.
