I just recently purchased a Sony Grand Wega 50" LCD Rear Projection TV (KDF-50WE655). I read about the availability of DVD players now that have HDMI output and upconversion to 720p, 1080i. I figured that since my TV has an HDMI port available, I should use it to get the best picture.
So I ended up buying the Toshiba SD-5970. I then connected my old Pioneer DVD player (from 1998) via S- video, my panasonic player w/ progressive scan(from 2003) via component and my new Toshiba via HDMI. Both the pioneer and panasonic players showed a pretty grainy picture. The Toshiba showed a smoother picture at 720p than on 1080i. Overall, the Toshiba was best. However, I hate the remote and setup menus on the thing.
Does anyone else have this same TV and tried the other HDMI DVD players out there? LIke the Panasonic DVD-S97S or the Sony DVP-NS975V ? Any recommendations, opinions?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
