First off I have been reading the forum for about 3 weeks now and i must say every night my brain actually hurts from all of the new wrinkles i've made. This place is a plethera of imformation and seems to be there are some very highly educated individuals when it comes to audio/visual products and componets. I was impressed so i signed up to help aid my ignorance into a wealth of knowledge.

With that being said I would like to ask a couple of questions about what reciever is going to be right for me. I have Wharfedale Valdus 500's for fronts and Wharfedale Valdus 400's for rears. My center channel is a Wharfedale Crystal. Subwoofers consist of 2 Velodyne SPL1200R's

The type of music i listen to is generally loud/obnoxious to some but thats what I dig, but on the other hand i like to listen to soft relaxing sounds. So i guess its fair to say that im a well rounded in my stlyes of music. Loud and clear is what im looking for after a self evaluation.

So im looking for a reciever that has plenty of power to push my speakers with plenty of headroom. I have a budget from 500-1000 give or take a couple hundred.

Thanks in advance:D

Well, we would need the speaker's impedance and sensitivity, room size and how loud do you really play?
The two subs do help a lot with power needs:D

Sensitivity on the speakers are 93db 1w/1m 200 watt rms and the room size is 13 feet wide and 24 feet long. Really loud and clear if that helps:D

I was thinking maybe a Harmon/Kardon avr7300 or a Denon 3806?

Your speakers certainly are efficient. I don't know much about the Harmon, but I own the 3806 and think its a fine receiver and would meet your needs. The down side of the 3806 is the crummy remote, poor manual, and needlessly complicated user interface.

Well after reading 7-8 hours of lab reports on a couple different recievers i broke down and purchased a Harman/Kardon AVR7300. I was very particular with the claimed digital output power and the actual tested lab reports. From factory they claim 110 watts with all seven channels driven and in 3 or more write ups they observed 139-143 watts with all channels driven. THD is claimed .05 and test reports indicated a .03 under the same testing conditions. Atop of the above mentioned it also has a solid foundation to start out with when I purchase a new screen in the next few weeks. But i must learn more about that as well before i make a purchase:rolleyes: Pics to follow...........when i recieve the unit. Stay tuned...
