I have a yamaha rx-595a. DTS dolby etc. If I trurn the mode to dolby or dts, I here a pulsing static noise. If I listen to fm its sounds fine. Is this reciever junk?

Looking at the receiver it only has analog audio inputs, I would check and see if it does it only on one of the inputs or all. Also make sure all of your cables are in good condition and that they are not running beside any power wires for the components, if they have to cross make sure they cross at 90 degree angles. Switch cables or inputs on the receiver to try and troubleshoot the problem, if it does it only on one input of the receiver then it could be that one input only. And if it does it on all of them, switch out your cables, if it still does it try a different component (if you are using your DVD player try out a cable/sat box in the same input with two different sets of cables). You want to verify for 100% that it is the receiver, and you will have to go through this process to verify WHAT the problem actually is. If you do not do it throughly you may replace the wrong thing and it would be a waste. Now you may have already done this, I do not know. If you go through all of this and the receiver still does it ONLY when going to DTS or DD with new cables (and switching out your components) and on all of the receivers inputs then it would appear that your receiver is the problem. But the good part of that is that you get to go receiver shopping. And you can pick up a new receiver with some digital inputs. Good luck and sorry for the long post. Just want to make sure you get it figured out, and don't spend more money (or time) than you have to. Good Luck.
