Hello all,
I have a couple questions I hope you guys can help me with, I want to add an external amp from my receiver's L&R preouts to drive my mains. In looking at the spec sheet of my Onkyo TX-SR702 it says preout 1.0v @470 Ohms, I'm assuming this is the output voltage of the 702's preouts. I'm wondering if the 702 preamp can drive an external amp? I've noticed the EMO amps have a 32dB gain structure and leaning towards that direction. Any thoughts? Also when I connect this amp what would I have to change in the receiver setup menu? I've read that I will have to select speaker size, Xover settings and sound levels, please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know if my receiver is capable of adjusting individual speaker Xovers, I'd appreciate any help or advice concerning this. Thanks to all reading this, I look forward to your reply.

The whole purpose of an external amp is to amplify the signal that is fed to it. No worries about hooking one to your Onkyo's preouts. You should have set speaker size and crossover already anyway. You might have to make some small adjustments (maybe speaker level or crossover depending on your sub) after adding a separate amp, but probably not much.
