Receivers with 5.1 preamp output

<font color='#000000'>Does the main volume control of these type of receivers control the 5.1 preamp outputs ?

I ask because I hooked up 2 active (powered) monitor speakers to the TAPE audio out of my receiver and the receiver's volume control does not regulate the audio that comes thru that output, it simply passes straight thru from the source (CD/DSS,etc)

I want to buy a receiver that has the 5.1 preamp out to connect 4 powered monitor speakers and want to control their volume from the receiver (vs. having to adjust volume to each speaker individually)

BTW, I am new to all this  

 and trying to learn as much as possible

<font color='#0000FF'>As far as I know in Yamaha receivers, the main volume controls the mains and the surrpounds are controlled by the level controls.</font>

<font color='#000000'>The tape audio out does not pass through the receiver's volume control and preamp. &nbsp;It is meant to send out the source or another tape signal to a recording gear so you can record the source level independent of the volume or tone settings of the receiver.

IT's a different matter altogether if your receiver has a pre-amp output labled as such. If you conect that to another main or power amplifer, your receiver acts as a preamp where all the controls and sources are useable.</font>

I will be looking for a A/V receiver with 5.1 preamp out...any recomendations ? (U$ 500 Range)

<font color='#000000'>Offhand i could think of the Pioneer VSX D811S which i think cost around $300. &nbsp;It's a 7.1 BTW. &nbsp;It has excellent features and source/format flexibility but has a lousy amplifier section that is rated at 1% THD at 1KHz, &nbsp;not audophile-grade in my opinion. &nbsp;But it makes a great preamp with its muliti-channel preamp output. &nbsp;

You can try scouting for other brands like Yamaha, harman kardon, denon, etc, in the mid-price range and look at the back panel to check if there are 5.1 pre-outs. &nbsp;Cheaper receivers may not have these. &nbsp;Just my 2 cents.</font>
