Hi All, I am in the market for a sorround system. Looking to spend about $2000. In going through my options , I think I like the B&W speakers (601) along with a Yamaha RXV640 receiver. Wanted to know if any of you had an experience with these products. Did not know how Yamaha receivers compare to other mfg.s like Denon, Pioneer & onkyo. Any input or reference to imformation the web would be much appreciated.
Thanks, AMP

Denon, Pioneer Elite series and Onkyo all make fine stuff but your B&W speakers compliment Yamaha receivers sonic pattern very well so you wont go wrong with that combo.

If U willingly spend $2000 for a receiver and speaker, I have a combo for recommendation: Axiom M40Tise, EP 125, Marantz SR 5000. Don't forget ask for B-stock version of Axiom product. Depending on what model they're available for B-stock. And also, the rest of your money, U can invest in your decent price cable, Monster Banana plug or spade, Kimber cable is good for Axiom' imaging and accurate position of vocal. good luck.

Don't sell yourself short go with the RX-V1300, B&W 602.5S3 for the fronts and for the rears 601S3's and which ever center and surround back speakers (preferbly buy another pair of 601S3's for front and rear center), plus an ASW 650.
Also if you can't afford to buy this system all at once piece it together piece by piece. This way you have a better garuatee of achieve a better system.

I will tell you first hand that the Axiom Audio M22ti(s) will smoke the B&W 602 speakers... I've heard/owned both... the only caveat is that i haven't heard Series 3 B&Ws, but I do not believe they would be that much improved. Then spring for the QS4's for the surrounds. If you can afford it, buy the VP150 center channel speaker.

M22ti(s) $400/pair
VP150 $350
QS4s $310/pair
EP175 sub $500
RX-V1300 (good recommendation) $530

Total Price: $2090

[Edit: corrected typo on B&Ws]
