I am upgrading my older, but very reliable Sony STR-DE-545 receiver to maximize performance on a new 5.1 home theater system (either Mirage MX or Nanosat). In choosing Mirage, CNET highly recommends a receiver with an adjustable "subwoofer crossover" setting. Though it does not specifically state in my research, I assume newer model AV receivers have this functionality. I am leaning towards a mid-range receiver with my ranked choices being: 1) Yamaha RX-V667, 2) Denon AVR-1911, 3) Pioneer VSX-1020-K , 4) Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K. It is a small room set up (12x12) with 55' Mitsubishi TV, HD DVR, DVD, PS3.

Any thoughts on your receiver preferences/experiences or knowledge of adjustable "subwoofer crossover" functionality in these receivers is greatly appreciated in helping me make an informed decision. Thanks.

Denon has the most versatile, independent bass management system. While the others use a global BM setup. With any system that uses similar speakers, a global BM setup works just fine. The Yamaha as your 1st choice will work great for your setup.

I'm not 100% sure if CNET is referring to independent crossover settings for the mains, center, and surrounds, or if they simply mean more than one option for a global crossover point. Generally you only find a fixed crossover on cheap HTIB receivers where the manufacturer knows in advance what speakers the customer will be using. Most entry level receivers with offer choices (varies by manufacturer and model) of 50 or 60hz, 80, 100, 120, and 150hz global settings. On the other hand independent crossovers for the mains, center and surrounds and more setting options are usually found in mid-priced receivers and above.

I would probably go with the Denon AVR-1911 for the Audyssey MultiEQ feature setup and room correction feature. If you don't need 3D support and live in the US you might want to consider a factory reconditioned Onkyo TX-SR707 - I have one in my bedroom and like it a lot. They also have a good price on the newer 3d ready 708.
