Receiver w/ video processing or outboard processor (or nothing)

I got a Samsung FP-T5084 plasma tv for Christmas & now I'm in the process of upgrading my other equipment.

I had settled on the Onkyo 805 until I realized that it doesn't have advanced video processing capabilities & my new tv doesn't handle 3:2 pulldown correctly. (Thanks to jlahk for pointing me to http://hometheatermag.com/hookmeup/1107hook2/)

I've done some reading on this & still don't have a good handle on just how much improvement I will see using better video processing upstream of the tv. I also don't have a handle on what kind of money I'd need to spend on a separate video processor.

My current set of choices are:

1. Get the Onkyo 875 - it seems to be pretty widely held to have great video processing capabilities.

2. Get the Onkyo 805 & an outboard video processor.

3. Just get the Onkyo 805 & don't worry about 3:2 pulldown.

Any thoughts/comments on this?

Thanks,

David

I'd say get the 875. I'm not sure what kind of video processing the 805 has, but I'm pretty sure the 875 uses the Reon HQV (as with the Onkyo Pro 885 and the new Integra 9.8) which will handle the 3:2 pulldown no problem.

And for the sake of consistency, I'll point you to another article discussing separate video processors:
